Global Smartmatic breaks nine straight wins

A shocking draw was the result of the midweek clash between league leader Global Smartmatic and Army Fritz & Macziol IBM.

Early in the first half, Global lead through a goal from last season’s top goalscorer Izzeldin Elhabbib. At the start of the second half, it looked like Global will go home with all 3 points. However, the Armies fought back and took away some precious points after scoring a heartbreaking equalizer in the second half.

It is a considerably frustrating result for the Cup Champions. The points lost should have placed them in a strong position at the top of First Division.

The match ended the impressive nine consecutive wins for Global Smartmatic which stretched as far as the previous Cup season.

Army Fritz & Macziol were the only team who stopped them in their bid for a tenth straight win since the now defunct Union FC defeated Global last November 2010.

Despite the shocking draw, the belief is still there as Izzeldin Elhabbib recorded his fifth goal in four consecutive matches. He is now back to his extraordinary goalscoring form following the dip of his partner striker Misagh Bahadoran – Sugod.com’s Player of the Month last February.

Global’s Izzeldin Elhabbib, also known as ‘Izo’, is currently the second top goalscorer in the league behind his compatriot Fil-Iranian Misagh Bahadoran.
