Green Archers v Air Force 04182011

The Philippine Air Force Rider now assumes the leadership of the LBC United Football League rankings as they defeated Green Archers Orient Freight, 5-1, in their match held last April 17 at the University of Makati Football Stadium.

The earlier match of Global Smartmatic FC against Loyola Meralco Sparks ended in a draw with one goal apiece. Thus, this allowed the Airmen to overtake Global in the standings, with 17 points against the 15 of the latter.

Emilio “Chieffy” Caligdong’s goal came in the 15th minute of the first half. Caligdong saw an opening near the rightside goalpost when Green Archers Orient Freight Goalkeeper Martin Villaflor anticipated other attack from Caligdong. Yet, Green Archers were able to even up as Enrique Romero-Salas pulled it through from an assist of his teammate, Christian “Tating” Pasilan, in the 21st minute. However, Ian Araneta was able to do a back-to-back goals in the 25th and 26th minutes of the first half. After Araneta’s first goal, Air Force were able to regain possession of the ball. Villaflor already caught the ball, but it bounced back, and gave another opportunity for Araneta to goal.

The second half of the match paved way for the Air Force Riders to score even further as Yanti Bersales and Aubrey Amatorio scored in the 75th and 86th minutes, respectively.

According to Caligdong, there were lapses in the Green Archers defense, thus they had more chances of scoring goals. In addition, their advantage of being more experienced than of the Orient Freight players and driven to grab the top-seed again.
