Green Archers Orient Freight is now the latest team to frustrate the mighty Global Smartmatic as they were held in a 0-0 draw in yesterday’s UFL fixture.
Global, despite starting the match strong, were unable to break through Martin Villaflor’s goal. Izzo El-Habbib almost put Global in front but wasted his chance on goal.
The Green and White side also had their fair chances to score but the effective tandem of goalkeeper Kenneth Dolloso and Jerry Barbaso, who was a defensive rock for Global, kept the Archers at bay.
In the start of the second half, Global regrouped when top scorer Misagh Bahadoran was subbed in to the match. Even though the attacking tandem of Bahadroan and Izzo, they were still unable to break the deadlock.
Global was looking for a win as Azkals midfielder William Espinosa Gueridon made his much awaited debut in the middle of the second half. This forced Archers into a flurry of defensive stops as Gueridon was unstoppable in his run down the right flank, but Global was missing the final touch.
The Green Archers also fancied their way in making an upset, but they were unable to cope up with Barbaso’s defensive prowess as the defender was often quick to the ball.
Late in the match, Global went into overdrive to score the winner, but efforts by Bahadoran and Gueridon were denied giving both clubs a fair share of the points.
Global is set to regain their winning ways as they duke it out against Army Fritz and Macziol IBM, who are behind them in the standings. Green Archers, on the other hand, will be against the slumping Navy FC. Both matches will be this Sunday at the University of Makati football field.
